Plinths Ponds and Things!

Found this little fellow in the bathroom! Very sweet, very small but a bit caught up in hair and fluff! l spent a few minutes carefully de-tangling him from it all (and made a mental note to vacuum the bathroom floor more often if these little critters are going to keep coming in!)
l put him outside near the fish bowl. Nice if he hopped in but l think he might have been a tempting bit of fodder for the 6 gold fish that prowl just below the surface!
l was happy to see the Water Irises and the Arum Lillies l put in there only about two weeks ago have started to send new shoots out of the water. A stall holder from the Margate Train gave them to me as he has them in his beautiful fish pond on display in the shop. His pond was the inspiration for me to get our one! l was very thrilled when he plunged his hands into the water and pulled out a heap of offshoots for me to put in mine! Thank you Lyndon!
l picked up this 'plinth' (?) from work very cheaply the other day as it had a chip on the side (which adds to its appeal!) l am quite pleased with it and it will be placed in the garden to hopefully become surrounded by flowers.......l have a lot of plants to plant!!! In the interim l will have very bare flowerbeds full of interesting junk!!!
Also my freebie solid cast iron (rusty) birdbath that l hoisted out of the rubbish bin! Amazing what some people will throw away!
Oh dear......l can visualise the place in 10 years time.... not a single plant to be seen....just flowerbeds crammed full of coloured push bikes.... rusty pedestals...... bits of metal....... old bed heads...........and plinths...........lots of plinths..............
Oh  and the last day of Summer today..........................Must explain the very chilly, frosty 4 degrees we had this morning............... See you tomorrow Autumn...

Home today!

Today we said goodbye to Carrie, Tabitha and Jamie. The kids had a wonderful time with a few tears when they had to say their final goodbyes to the goats, dogs, sheep and cows.
Jamie loved it all especially and thought this Quince looked like a mother having baby!
He also helped Geoff dig up some potatoes
Although l think Geoff did most of the digging.....................................
And Jamie did more of the watching......................................
As did the ducks through the fence.............
And Toggles (looking surprisingly sweet !!!)

They dug out a huge haul of Pink Eyes and Dutch Creams.
We also took them for a Ute ride around the paddocks as neither of them had ever done that before. Treeka of course as usual had to be thrown in...!!!!!
They had a lovely time and are looking forward to coming back before too long!
And no idea what Blue the calf was thinking here.............no idea!!!!

Hot!!!

Today was hot!! Not just Tassie hot when we get uncomfortable with anything over 25 degrees. l mean  HOT!!! Nowhere l think in Australia sizzled more then we did today! We have several fairly big bush fires happening around the State with the wind pushing it down to the Huon so nowhere is free from the smell and the smoke. The Fire Brigades up there have put in a couple of huge days and nights. Lets hope the rain forecast for tomorrow comes through.
Everyone was hot today! Toggles and Lizzie wedged themselves between the cool rocks and would'nt stir!

Tinks braved the heat and sprawled out on the sunbed!!
The geese and ducks spent most of the day hovering around their water. Geoff turned the hose on them which of course they just love!
Geoff had got pretty fire ready 'just in case' (l was at work but he was home) We did in fact have a fire call out in Franklin but luckily it was quickly put out and didnt pose any threat at all. Still, the smell of wood smoke on a hot day is always pretty nerve racking!
Later in the evening when the sun had gone down we turned on the river pump and SOAKED the garden! So lucky! LOVE that river pump! All the flower beds got drenched. So did the goats, cows and Treeka!!!
Everywhere ended up wet and dripping. It smelt lovely and even the frogs started to sing!
Tomorrow l think our mini heat wave will be over. l hope so!

My Sister's Visit

My sister has an Ipad.............. not that l'm jealous or anything!!! It just takes great photos with a multitude of amazing lenses which turns any picture into an extraordinary one! Here's  a few random shots from her visit here this past week.
A kero lamp hanging up in the Walnut Tree..
Little Lizzie looking cute as usual....
 Poppy and Auntie Jack
A sort of ' cool and hip' shot of our old apple shed!!!
A bottle of Chardonnay on the kitchen table

A shot of the corner of the Sitting Room

A Lovely Day!

Had my sister, niece and nephew from Victoria stay the night last night!Tabby just loved Tinks and as soon as she woke up this morning was out on the rocks playing tag with her! Tinks loved it and they leaped around from rock to rock for quite a while! They played all sorts of games! From trying to unlace Tabs shoes!.....

To trying to push each other off!...........
And seeing who could leap the highest and jump the fastest! Very sweet to watch them both.
In the afternoon we went to my fav shop.............The Margate Train! Had a delicious lunch there, browsed through the shops, bought out the the Lolly Shop  and my sister very kindly bought me these beautiful purple glass wine goblets that l LOVE!!!
On the way back we stopped at the Junk/Antique/Rubbish shop in Huonville and l found this chair which is very similar to the last chair l bought ((from the Margate Train!!) It's very comfortable and the colour was exactly the same so it was hard to resist! Geoff picked it up on his way home from work.He wasnt too sure about it until he sat in it..........and l wedged a footrest under his feet...........then l think he liked it!
Its been put in the bedroom at present but not sure if we will leave it there! Nice quiet place to read a book though
The day was only slightly marred by the arrival of this in the Sitting Room in the afternoon, only minutes in fact AFTER my Arachnophobic Sister and Niece left! Phew! Glad it was then! Don't think they would have stayed the night if they knew this Monster was possibly only metres away!Ughhhh!!!
Oh and how could l forget this!!!!!!!!
My little stick Snowman!!!! He was at the Margate Train, sitting outside with some of the cheaper outdoor stuff. l picked him up to see how much he was and his little tag said " FREE!" How could l resist him!!!! His head was severely 'lolling' but nothing that a few twists of wire couldn't fix! He's now nestled under a bush peeking out as you walk past! He's gorgeous! Don't you just love old junk!

An Unwelcome Visitor

Went out in the car today and met a rather large black and white Pitt Bull Terrier type dog wandering around the road. Obviously lost and not knowing where to go. He sidestepped the car as l drove past but didnt slink away like a lot of lost dogs do. l drove past then turned around and went back home to call the Dog Ranger. l don't like to see stray lost dogs at the best of times but l like it even less when they are big scary looking and heading towards the house with paddocks full of lambs and calves!!

l rang the Ranger who was 20 minutes away in Cradoc but he assured me he would head out straight away and try and pick him up. l went back outside to the car and lo and behold there was the dog coming up the drive!!!!!! Eeeeeek!
Luckily he was very friendly, very tired and hot. l easily slipped a collar on and lead then called the Ranger back to tell him l had the dog in custody. True to his word within 10 minutes he was there to pick him up. Thank you Huon Valley Council!! He wasn't microchipped but hopefully his owner will reclaim him soon.
Certainly a worry though when we have our precious goats sleeping only metres away.
