Joe's Greenhouse!

Saturday was a big day..... Today on this bare patch of land we started our greenhouse!!! Note top right handcorner.two sleeping horses! Big black blob.....little white blob!! Hard life!!!
" We" is actually loosely put............'.WE' means the two main starring roles of the build being Geoff Dixon himself........
And a very dear  friend Mr Joe Dallas Of 'Joes Greenhouses' Fame!!!
l was in fact fairly superfluous although l did make a mean batch of muffins to feed the two during the course of the day!!
Spent a $1 at the Tip Shop on some red and gold glasses to add to the collection............
Wandered around the garden and took some photos...................
and some of the planter boxes l made yesterday....
And made interesting observations like suddenly noticing the leaves on the Walnut Tree have started to change colour.......
So enough about me and what l did!!!!........... back to the greenhouse................. by the end of day one it looked like this.
And unfortunately by the end of day TWO it STILL looked like this!!!
High winds ,rain and thunderstorms made it impossible to put the plastic on so we shall just have to wait till next weekend!
Ravioli, garlic bread and white wine in my most favourite dining room ended our Saturday and delicious smoked pork at friends ended our Sunday. A busy but most productive and enjoyable weekend!

Op Shop Treasures!!!

Today l walked into our favourite local Op Shop and spotted on the shelf in a little cluster (looking very out of place amongst the china cups and plastic plates) three fabulous little treasures. ...My brother and family are coming to visit next month. Two little girls who find our place a treasure trove of weird, strange and interesting things. l immediately thought these would be fun inexpensive quirky objects to have in their room when they stay.First was this rather odd plaited cane treasure chest.
Then this little trinket box..............don't get excited folks.. it's not silver......or even metal ....it's a sort of resin plastic but it's red velvet lined inside with a mirror...........kids will love it!
And the absolute 'piece de resistance' without doubt  was this............... It winds up and plays 'King of the Road" and as it does so the roof quite bizarrely lifts up and down in a sort of jerky uncoordinated way! lts great!........kids or no kids l had to have it!!
And then l spotted something for me......a bowl ...red ....... garish ...love it.............
And not one single candlestick! Thank you Op Shop! $7 well spent!

At Last!!!

It's cold!!! Cold mornings, cool evenings,fires.....candles..Ahhh Autumn! The grass is rapidly greening up with the rain we have had. Cats happy. No more sleeping under the stars! It's time to come in and sleep next to the fire!
 Lilli just gets closer!!!
The house is warm and cosy....
 Love it!!

Another job done..

Today l finally hoisted the kayaks up into the roof! A job l have been meaning to do for ages!
It gives us more room on the ground for 'stuff' and keeps them away from rates and mice!!
Now that the leaves have well and truly shrivelled and browned off, the fire area at Braeside stands out more then ever. A constant reminder of our dry hot Summer.
Mind you.......today we are eagerly anticipating nearly an inch of rain so Welcome Autumn!!

Watch Out............the Loggers are about!

We spotted a new sign on Jackson's Road as we pulled out of the drive this morning!
A log truck warning sign complete with the usual bullet holes all over it! This one looks like it's been peppered with some kids air rifle though!
And sure enough at the crack of dawn the log trucks head up the hill and down they come an hour or so later laden with logs. Only plantation one though!
Not anything big to get too upset about! What is amazing though is the big monster machine that cuts the trees down, strips their leaves and branches off ready to go, is up there working away at 4am ! In the pitch black! He must have some pretty powerful headlights!
This is the second morning l have woken up listening to the constant drone of this huge destructive machine in the distance.
l don't mind them............just as long as we don't get too many!!!

Whispering Flowers

Geoff and l bought a set of bunk beds to put in the spare room. This gives us 3 beds in the one room for when friends and family come to stay. Great idea until you start to try and put one together!!! l think it took us the greater part of a whole day to get them up!
Not surprising when you try to decipher the instructions!!! It's bad enough trying to put one together let alone two THEN have to stick one on top of the other!!
Finished late afternoon and took the opportunity to go outside and smell the roses. It intrigues me what this rose is saying to this sunflower!!!
Whispering floral secrets to each other or saying 'get out of my face this is MY patch!!!'  We shall never know!
l love this little duck. She is one of the few girls out of the batch of 8 we have. She reminds me of a Plover though! Lets hope she's not as stupid!
Then time for a bonfire..............
 and a wine .............

Give a dog a Jelly Bean!!!

For a few weeks l have noticed (most bizarrely!!) a red jelly bean lying behind the feed bins in the barn. l had no idea why it was there and every time l saw it l would wonder where it came from. So today l made the supreme effort of moving the bin and retrieving the mysterious bean! Treeka happened to be standing right behind me (as she  does a lot) so l gave it to her! She had no idea what to do with it but was so touched (in her rather sad pathetic way) that she had been given something, she wanted to keep it!!! She must have aimlessly wandered around the yard for a good 10 minutes with this rapidly dissolving jelly bean in her mouth. Not eating it , just holding it ,periodically dropping it, staring at it and picking it up again. She eventually took it into her kennel and sat there for about half and hour with it carefully placed between her paws.
Lilli (who although was fast asleep on her bed) must have activated her radar nose and was soon sniffing around the outside the kennel wondering what SHE had that SHE didn't!!! l must say l didn't give it much thought after that..........................
Until later!!!!!....When l spotted it in her bed!...... VICTORY for the Chihuahua!!!!
l presume she has now buried it somewhere. No doubt l will find it one day with fur, hair and bits of fluff stuck to it!...........Nice one Lilli... You are lucky that the big Border Collie is such a kind and patient friend to you!!..............
Books and a candle at the table after dinner . Now time for bed. Good Night all .....

Give a dog a bone!

A few days ago Geoff killed a rooster. a.) two crowing roosters is too much. b.) It was fighting with Mr Magnificent and winning!. c.)We are meant to be eating stuff like that aren't we?. d.) Didn't look terribly appetising. e.) It made good dog food!!!!......ANYWAY.................Aside from our failings at being able to eat our own produce.........Geoff gave the one of its clawed feet to Lilli. Lilli was so overwhelmed with excitement as to what to do with this scaly treat she buried it. There's no way she would ever be able to eat it as her tiny teeth would have no chance of getting through the skin!. So she buried it in one of new beds l will plant out next year at the front of the house. It's all crumbly horse manure so easy for a Chihuahua to get through. Lilli is now guarding the claw with her life!!! From marauding dogs (Treek) the cat (who isn't interested but Lilli doesn't know that!) and a couple of stray wallabies that got into the garden last night somehow! (Now THAT was a sleepless night with Lilli spending most of it ferociously chasing them around the garden away from her claw!!!) AND so onto this morning she had to defend her property from the horses!
They were quite intrigued! And she just sat there! Quivering slightly, but you would l guess having a horse that size only one foot away from you!
She snarled and attacked Max a few times through the wire when she felt he was getting too close!
Even when they started playing and carrying on, she just sat there guarding her claw!!!
Keeping an eye on their antics though!
And then they wandered off and l went to work leaving this tiny dog forlornly sitting in a pile of horse poo guarding her claw...........
