My Favourite Corner.

More picket painting today!! Another 27 bought and ready to go!!
Not quite halfway there but looking great!!! l think they are all straight!!
l spent a few minutes admiring what it looked like from the inside of the garden too, from what is fast becoming my favourite little spot in the garden! This table and chair sit under our bedroom window.  Not that l sit there a lot, but l do find myself taking a few moments occasionally as it's very sheltered and a nice shady spot on a sunny day.No, that isn't a gorgeous ancient old stone wall behind! It's actually the foundations of the house. It's quite high in that particular corner. And yes.......that IS a candlestick on the table. We have a few around here!!
It's a lovely quiet little corner and will only get better as the trees and bushes grow around it.

Hats off to Geoff!

l was watching Geoff from the  kitchen window the other day (with my camera, unbeknownst to him!) as he went to  retrieve Clips who had found an open gate and wandered into somewhere he shouldn't!
Having a quick drink with his newfound freedom!
And a ponder on life
Clips is a gentle and kind  horse and the majority of the time, very quiet....
But he is also very big, exceptionally strong and sometimes a little stubborn.
He loves to occasionally throw in an enormous buck ,twist and spin in the paddock just to show us he loves life and to remind us of his incredible strength and power. And l admit , sometimes it can be a little scary! l will never go near him on a windy day if he' has the wind up his tail' as the old saying goes!
Until we bought him, Geoff really has had very little to do with horses of any kind let alone one of the biggest breeds in the World! So l think its quite admirable that he has taken on having the horses on the farm. Both big and small! Well done Geoff and thank you!!!

Beautiful Spring

Some lovely welcome wet weather these past few days. It's amazing how just a bit of rain makes everywhere seem so soft and green and beautiful!
Bruce fiercely guarding his girl.....
Darling Treek..........deaf............in her own little silent world..........
And more gorgeous colour .....colour .......colour......love it!
Everything looks beautiful if the photo's right!!!
Even this ugly little fellow still hiding under the bush!
l love Spring!!

The Front Fence

A cute little early morning visitor this morning enjoying the Spring sunshine!
And it's started!!! 20 up this morning! Looks fab. About 180 to go!!
The view from the inside looking out! The sheep wire will stay in place to keep the Wallabies out until the whole thing is done then we will pull it out.
Got my string line thing happening!!!!
Lilli missed all this She was busily guarding a little dead rabbit she found..... (killed by the cat sadly but it DOES stop the rabbit population exploding)......All day she sat under the wagon with it. Growling at Treek and Pushka and snapping at any fly who dared land on it! Daft little dog. It was originally in the middle of the drive but l threw it under the wagon as l was a bit concerned a passing Wedge Tail Eagle might have snapped up both!! She had a few attempts at trying to eat it but could only manage mouthfuls of rabbit fur stuck in her teeth! Most bizarre really as she has never had any instincts like this before but she fiercely wanted that little bunny today come hell or high water!!!!As the Sun went down tonight l had to call her inside while Geoff threw it away in the paddock for some passing Quoll or Eagle to pick up. Poor Lill was most upset when she realised it was gone!!
And its started!!!! The dangly things on the Walnut Tree have started to die and fall off.
The lawn and all the paths are COVERED in what look like big black hairy caterpillars!
Like some sort of mass migration!!
Yuk!

Pickets and Posts

Today was a bonus for us! Hobart Show Day, so a Public Holiday for Southern Tasmania only. Lovely for me when it's tacked onto my weekend!! A three day break!! Yayy!
The weather was just stunning and Geoff and l had a gorgeous day outside. (as usual!!)
l painted pickets.....................some very cleverly BEFORE they go up.....These are the tall ones for our front fence. The first 20!! So easy....in the shade of the Walnut Tree, propped up against the fence.....very neat.......nice.. relaxing...........
The next lot....................not so nice!!! The picket fence l built BEFORE l painted them!! Grrrrrrr.......All the little side bits..........all the grass............sticks to the pickets........paint on the grass...kneeling...........paint on the knees........brush wider then the pickets......paint on the hands..........paint everywhere in fact.............sigh ........and so it goes on............Thirty one pickets in all.........It might not SOUND like much but that's 62 sides....two coats so that's 124 times AND the horrid side bits  so that's another 124 times having to go up and down  AND the bar behind so all those little inny bits too!!! THEN there is the fancy decorative bit on the top! Aghhhhhhhhhhh ..............why didn't l go for wire fences!!!!
They always look nice finished though!! And for those who can count.........yes there aren't 31 pickets here.........this was the OTHER side of the gate! It was just a nicer photo!!!
Geoff had a very industrious day brush cutting and finishing off the posts for his grape vines.
It all looks very smart now............
The grapes are tied up to the wire and ready to take off for Summer.
As is the Garlic. We will have lots of Garlic this year!
Lilli did nothing but bask in the  warmth. It's funny how she speeds up as soon as the Sun comes out! All Winter she lies inert on the sofa and now the days are warmer she is suddenly scuttling about everywhere! Dog hibernation l think!
And a wine to end a beautiful  busy day!
Lovely!

A Tree for the Future

Stunning early morning.........l love my wander around the garden as the sun is coming up!
The slightest touch of frost , low lying mist and sunshine all combined...
And the old and the new.....a Golden Elm we planted last year down the driveway. set against the stump of an old old pine tree that was chopped down years ago. We will never see this tree as large and beautiful as the old stump behind it but as Geoff always says.......Someone has to plant the trees.

Herb Garden

A few months ago Geoff and l bought this lovely old wooden water trough from our local online classifieds. (for $25!!!!!!) It's huge, solid and just gorgeous. We toyed with the idea of cleaning it up, putting it on its side (it's in two sections) and having it as a rather unusual cabinet on our veranda. But sanity stepped in and we knew full well we would NEVER get around to doing that!! So rather then it sit in the corner of the yard gathering dust l threw in a couple of bales of hay.....a truck load of horse manure and about 6 bags of potting mix and created a Summer herb garden.
Just for this Summer we have put it around the side of the house where our (one day) courtyard is going to be.
Sitting under our rapidly expanding Wisteria.
l had heaps of fun choosing the herbs to put in it. l was very strict with myself and only bought ones l knew l would use.  So in went Parsley....
Oregano............
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Oregano again?????
Some sort of celery tasting herb.............. oh dear.........l have forgotten already!!!
Golden thyme??? Or was Thyme the one above the celery???
Lemon mint (l think!)
A bottle....ok ........so l put that there.............
And some interesting bits of wood .........
Cant wait for it all to grow now!!!
