Daffodils.

As usual, during the coldest and frostiest of times, up come the bulbs! The garden will soon be  awash with daffodils. They are pushing up everywhere.

These ones l found this morning l particularly loved as they have determinedly pierced the Walnut leaf that was in their way to daylight!

And all three sides on! AND three quarters of the rafters! All that's needed now (apart from the roof of course!) is a divider in the middle and it's done! (oh and two yards either side.....and gates......and lights...........and feeders....and water................................!!!)

Blackberry Burn Off!

Running right through the middle of our big paddock is a Winter Creek. Actually its more of a Winter/Autumn/Spring Creek as l think during the time we have been here it has only stopped for a few short months. The trouble is though.. we can't see it.....can't cross it.............all we can do in most places is hear it!!! Blackberries...Grrrrrr!! Great for jam but what a pest! Geoff went out there the other day in some fine weather and set into them with some fuel and a fire starter. Once they are burnt to sticks and we hack them out the animals can eat the grass that appears underneath and (hopefully) the goats will annihilate any young growth that shoots its delicious new green leaves up this Spring! That's the theory anyway!

He burnt a considerable amount but there's still a lot left!!!

Dad called in the other day to say hello and have a coffee. He took these rather lovely photos and l cant help wanting to show them off!

Little Max is such a character and a bit mischievous as l think only little ponies can be. l have never owned a pony before and l think he will keep us on our toes!

Getting there!

A sunny Winters day and the shelter starts to look like a shelter!!

It has a beautiful outlook. l do hope the horses appreciate it! It looks down towards the Rivulet. Sort of a nice place to build a house! Maybe we can convert it to Guest Accommodation one day?  It's certainly going to be built to last!

Winter Sun

Today was a beautiful day! This morning was freezing until the sun hit then it was just glorious l headed outside to do odd jobs about the place. One was to pick up the cow poo that collects under the Macracarpa Pines. The cows sit under there a lot,most of the night and any cold windy day. It's too easy to head out there with a wheelbarrow and a shovel and within half an hour l have 3 huge loads of poo!!  To save me constantly opening and closing gates l opened everything up and let the animals intermingle! Great fun they thought! Places they had never been and grass they have never eaten!Toggles headed straight for the top of the baby chook pen! !! Typical!

The sheep just loved all the grass in the chook pen they had never tasted before!

The goats made a bee line for the chicken shed and munched into the hay in there like they hadn't eaten for a week!

And the chooks ...feeling invaded headed off to the Macracarpas and settled down amongst the cow poo l was about to remove!

Mrs and Mrs Mother Hen and baby however didn't venture that far afield and watched all the comings and goings from a safe corner of the paddock

 As did Treeka!

The cows just basked in the sunshine. Blue giving Auntie Jack a lovely face clean with her coarse blue tongue!

 Then went to sleep in what l considered to be a rather precarious position!!!!

Poppy and Auntie Jack slept and dozed in the Winter sunshine.......

 What a perfect day!

The horse shelter is starting to take shape!

The roof is now on and it looks great!!!! A bit more strap bracing and the iron can then go up. Can't wait! It looks quite impressive even without any sides !

The twigs!

Today l have been a bit cheeky and 'stolen' a blog entry from some lovely friends of ours who moved from the Mainland nearly two years ago. We met them after they had only been in Tassie a few days. They had bought a house just up the road from us in Glen Huon, we invited them round for a Welcome drink and have been firm friends ever since. They have moved up to Hobart now as their jobs are there,but we keep in touch mainly via their beautiful blog. They came to stay over the weekend and this is her mention of us in HER blog!!!

Sunday 1st July

north & south

bb, mabel & i have spent the last 2 saturday nights at the far ends of our beautiful state.last saturday we headed north to spend a night on the top edge of the island. 24 hours full of tasty treats (vongole pasta, my favourite!) lovely buddies and beautiful blue skies.then last night we took a trip south.

back to where it all began. we spent a glorious night with the first friends we made when we moved here. so great to see them and so lovely to spend a night rugged up in their gorgeous farm house.life is good...

It was great to spend some time with them again and will as always look forward to the next visit!
