Spring Snow

Well Winter it appears is well and truly back!!! Did someone mention Spring?? The last few days have been totally savage! The first two days over the entire Winter that the horses have kept their rugs on for over 48 hours without them coming off at all!!! The goats are bored to death as they wont step one foot outside and spend all day bouncing off the walls in their shed and trying to smash through into the chook pen next door ...just for fun!!
We have snow everywhere though on the mountains and hills around the Valley which is as always very beautiful.
The real challenge in this weather though is trying to get Lilli outside !!
Chihuahuas and cold weather should never really be used in the same sentence.
Ready for a run Lil??????
Really... really..... REALLY..... NOT happy................!!!

More mud............

Today wasn't as much fun...................It was very very windy and cold. The wind gusts were enough to blow your hat off which didn't combine well with the mud!!! We hoisted the last remaining pieces up there and pretty much finished it all off apart from a few more gate latches and getting the electrics turned on.
We put the horses into one of the four paddocks we had just created. They checked out every corner and tried the new trough out! They seemed happy enough!
Unlike my boots and jeans who got deposited at the back door in one muddy combined mess!!!
We also started to rip up the floor of the garden shed we moved last week and decided the gap we have created would make a nice patio area at some stage.....((((((down the track when we have done everything else............!!))))))
One day!!!

Mud! Mud! Glorious Mud!

What a gorgeous day!!! A rare day for us to spend together as l am having my usual mid week days off and Geoff is still on holiday. Back up to the Four Corners paddock to finish installing the gates and fences. It's pretty muddy up there! For some bizarre reason the person who divided this paddock into four, decided to place the four gateways right slap bang on top of not only a massive sheet of bedrock but also a Spring! So we wallowed in thick slimy mud today which started off being quite humorous but ended up a bit of a gluggy drag......literally!
We had a very cute audience though!!
 And some very 'unhelpful' helpers....
They took great interest in everything we did..........
To the point they got so annoying (goats??????..annoying?????) l had to move them out of the paddock altogether! Toggles wasn't happy until she had climbed all over what Geoff had just done and knocked it all into the mud!
How many Supervisors do you need???
Then........ along came a cow.............................!!!
 Lilli just did her usual.................
Until it got so exhausting she had to have a sleep in her porta bed!!!
The goats sulked and watched from afar
As did Pushka...............
But we worked.... and we got heaps done. Tomorrow we should finish it and we had a great day........

White Rainbows!

What a contrast to yesterday!!! This morning was a strange one. Heavy frost, FREEZING cold and a thick fog!!!
Luckily (as usual!!!) l had a camera on me when l went outside and caught an amazing first glimpse of the sun peering through the gum trees on the hillside.
Walking back to the house we noticed what looked to be a white rainbow spanning the whole property. It was very hard to photograph and impossible to capture the whole thing so l only have half of it! Apparently (according to Google who knows all!) they are called fogbows! l feel very lucky to have seen one and have never done so before!
Here is a small quote which explains why they are as they are!

"A fogbow is a similar phenomenon to a rainbow, however, as its name suggests, it appears as a bow in fog rather than rain Because of the very small size of water droplets that cause fog smaller than 0.05 millimeters (0.0020 in)—the fog bow has only very weak colours, with a red outer edge and bluish inner.
In many cases when the droplets are very small, fog bows appear white, and are therefore sometimes called white rainbows."
Here is ours!!
Here are a few photos l found on Google. They are most common in very cold areas. Which was HERE this morning!!!
This one was taken in Iceland. l liked it as the pony reminded me of our own little white terror!

Hello Spring!

Spring has sprung! and today was (as hoped!) an absolutely glorious day. It has also signalled the arrival of the little Welcome Swallows back to the property. We saw a few the other day and noticed them again yesterday but today they were here in force, checking out the sheds (and the new horse shelter!) for possible nesting sites.
Apparently they eat approximately 400 times a day! (that’s every 2 minutes) and need to eat their own body weight daily to maintain their health and energy.. They normally migrate north in autumn and winter to SE Queensland (wise birds). Its usual to see them back in Tasmania in the first few days of September.
Gorgeous little birds. Welcome back to Tassie!!
