Wagon Progress!

Today we had the canvas man come to measure up the canopy for the wagon. We have decided against the traditional canvas and have gone with his recommendation of pvc. It's stronger, doesn't go mouldy (which would be a real problem here!) and is more fire retardant( funnily enough) if a wayward spark from a bonfire should land on it! It will have a zip both ends so it can be opened up straight through and should be ready in about two weeks! The swatches available came in a fairly ghastly range of colours!

We settled for a sort of olive green. We need it to blend into the scenery and not stand out too much against the trees etc. So purple and pink were out of the question!!!!

We also put the order in for the tin on the second wagon! This one needs to be rolled to fit the curve of the roof. We had to supply a template for the roof rolling people to work with.

This should also be ready in about two weeks!

We also  took advantage of the glorious Autumn sun and finished oiling the deck. l did the other half last week so today we pushed all the furniture back over the other side and Geof did the rest ready for Winter.

And congratulations to Pushka who in this photo looks like she has just graduated with Honours for Rat Catching!

Holiday!

Geoff and l have a week off! We  have a list of jobs to do as long as  both our arms put together! Very ambitious as usual and l doubt we will get through half of them!!
One thing we have accomplished though is a new gate!

It still needs a few fancy scroll bits up in the corners but it opens and closes, keeps the wallabies out and has one coat of paint on it! A job well done!

Autumn morning

A frosty start to the day today. Not too cold for a bathe though for some! Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Two beautiful bookends slept in the sun as the frost melted away and the fog disappeared.

As did old Treeka  dreaming of chasing rabbits in the hay barn.....

Gate Posts

l bought these gate posts a while ago. Quite a while ago in fact l just think l was remiss in taking photos of them! They are cast iron and weigh a ton! They seemed to be just perfect to put as an entry to our circle out in the orchard. No reason, no fence , just them!!! When the Silver Birches grow bigger it will look fabulous!

Geoff concreted them into the ground..

 One needs a new knob on the top

 Which we will get around to doing one day!!

But what a huge difference to less then a year ago (July in fact) before the trees and the circle went in!!!

Comfy Pup!

Lilli isn't stupid! She squished and nestled herself tonight right down into one of the cushions on the sofa. She created a perfect little warm soft cup to sleep on in front of the fire. Not silly at all!!!!

Down in the woods.....

Geoff and l have been doing a bit of work recently on the strip of land in between us and the Rivulet. It's all Crack Willow which grows and cracks and falls...grows, cracks and falls. The result is the Rivulet becomes a swamp with no real direction as it weaves its way amongst the fallen trees. Beautiful but ghastly stuff! Part of this area is in fact ours but over time the trees have encroached to such a point that the original fence lines have been pushed back to keep stock out of the mud and the land gets lost. We can't do a great deal, but we try to restrict any new growth and clean up the dead stuff that rots and falls on the ground. We have helpers too of course............

And the dogs although Lilli would rather not walk!!!

The goats love it and immediately get stuck into the sweet bark on some fallen Willow saplings

And time for a frolic!

This is in fact what we think is our original boundary post. Lost in the swamps! Toggles does her bit to eat the blackberries off it!

We have cleared a lot but it's now getting too damp to make anything burn...

Bargain!

Geoff and l called into our local Tip Shop the other day and snapped up two sections of picket fence, $2 for the pair. Great bargain as pickets generally cost about $2 each! Admittedly they are Windsor Pickets whereas the ones we use here are Colonial....but.....never look a gift horse in the mouth so back with us they came!

l wedged one of them amongst the new maple and the red vine.

 l should paint them l guess.............but l rather like the peeling paint!!!
