Compost Bins!

We have built three enormous compost bins since we have been here. Over time  they have been filled with all sorts of garden rubbish , cuttings ,old hay and a bit of horse poo! Last weekend we decided to clean them out in readiness for the next lot of Walnut Tree leaves (groan!!!!) The tree is rapidly going yellow, the White Cockatoos are sitting at the top eating the Walnuts and the first sprinkling of leaves are on the ground.
We emptied the two side bins and condensed it all into the one in the middle
Lilli supervised as usual
Geoff looking like he is doing some weird version of  The Macarena!!
It was hard work.............!!!
But we collected a huge amount of enormous earthworms that we transferred into the garden
As well as barrows of beautiful rich compost!
Empty and ready for this years Fall!

Knuckle Chomper!

A few shots of Geoff and the Big Fella. He seemed to have a fascination in Geoff's knuckles! Hoping there was an apple hiding in there somewhere l think!
A pretty flower that has randomly poked it way out of the ground all of a sudden! l think this came out last year but l can't quite remember!
And a hint of things to come as our first year Claret Ash begins  to turn a beautiful deep red as Autumn progresses. Can't wait till its bigger!

Dover Beach

Last week (or so ago!!!) Jenny and l hotfooted down to the beach at Dover for the afternoon. The main reason for our trip was to buy some second-hand curtains (which l did) and then the opportunity arose to take a long leisurely walk along the beach with Lilli in tow. We actually picked up a walking companion along the way. l can't remember his name! Buster, Billy, something like that! Anyway he thought Lilli was rather gorgeous and escorted us there and back for most of our walk. He was only a little Jack Russel but it certainly brings home how TINY Lilli is!!!
l wanted this for the garden..............but it was firmly embedded in the sand......ten feet long,,,,,,,,,,,and NOT going to fit in the Golf!!! l thought it looked like a dragon!
Loved this rock! Very dramatic against the skyline.....
We could have walked for hours and hours, round each and every bay. But sadly the tide started to come in so sanity prevailed and we turned back...
We shall maybe return with hiking boots and go further!!

Our new tank

l just found these photos of our new tank that we had delivered several weeks ago now! We have three galvanised ones but thought it might be a good idea to have a big poly tank installed in readiness for one day one of the galv ones springing a leak!
It's a 24,000 litre one which is about as big as you can get! It all looked very precarious when it arrived on the back of the truck. Full credit went to the truck driver who issued his instructions and we all got it off with minimal fuss and hassle! And no one got squashed!!!!
Geoff and our neighbour Mal who kindly came over the paddocks to give us a hand.
It's attached off the barn which is quite a big roof space. We then transfer the water by pump as needed to our house tanks.
In place on its new stand!  Makes the old tank next door look very tiny!
The old galv tank is coming out and going elsewhere (if it stays intact!..... if it gets a hole in it we will cut it in half and they make great goat shelters). We will then build a covered area out over where the old tank was as a new hay storage area..so we can fit our cars back in the garage!
Now we just need some rain to fill it up!

Fabulous Chair!

Check out my new chair!!!! Is it not the coolest thing!!!
Margate Train........where else?? Cost a small fortune (for me) $50!!!! Ouch!
 Had to have it.....
You couldn't make that sort of  thing for $50 of your time!
Ornament only though.......don't think l would like to sit on it!!
 Love it!!!

Tardy Again!

Been a while between posts again! No good reason! Just long Summer days, late nights, early mornings and lack of enthusiasm! With Autumn however creeping up on us, the light is once again becoming more interesting in the mornings throwing some beautiful shadows on the place. Love it!
Not a huge amount has been happening here at Candlestick Farm. Undoubtedly the biggest event has been a short but very special visit from Geoff's Mum Nancy. From Queensland so used to the slightly warmer temperatures, Nancy took to the cooler Tassie climate like a duck to water and is about the only person l know who can still look glamorous in a hat like this!!
We had a lovely time and still miss her!!
Here are the Public Holiday Lillies for you Nancy!
And the unknown pretty white flowers on the wire fence!
Looking forward to seeing you next time! xxxx
