We went up to one of the paddocks where they have been grazing for the last few weeks to see what sort of inroads they were making on the big clump of Broom that we have in one corner. They were as usual very keen to show off to us just exactly WHAT they eat and how MUCH they eat !
They are doing a great job and (of course being goats ) have stripped the branches bare to head height. Being selective browsers and the fact that it is a big paddock means they are not concentrated in an area enough to really obliterate it all but it makes it easier for us to then come in and chop it all down which we hope to do this Autumn. Animals like eating Broom. Sheep ,cows and wallabies so it's not really terribly invasive in a paddock that is grazed. It tends to take hold of paddocks that are not. Once we chop it down it will never really get a head start again as all grazing animals love the fresh tender new shoots that feebly try to poke their heads out of the ground!
Once it has gone we will have a much clearer view of the barn then we do now!
Time for a ponder as the Sun goes down.........
And to admire the flowers that even weeds produce this time of year!!!
Lilli doing her best Eagle Fly By fodder imitation. It always makes me nervous when l see her doing this!!! l have one eye on the ground and one eye in the sky for those huge flapping wings!
Then back down the (new) fence line and home to bed. Another enjoyable walk with goats
