The Potager

The past few days l have been hard at work creating a Potager Garden (or Kitchen Garden as they are otherwise known.). Not in competition with the Vegie Garden as this will be more aesthetically 'pretty' and filled with herbs and flowers. l have always loved the look of them and decided that now was the time to create our own. So Geoff has lost his netted Berry Garden as l moved in with shovels, spades and secateurs!!! A bit of a daunting task at first!!
First in was a compost heap!
And the wheel barrow!
A bench to sit on....with the beginnings of a paved area underneath,
Of course, as usual everything is done if possible from recycled materials with the beds being no exception. Old roof ridge capping run over by the car to make them totally flat and screwed together in lengths made perfect (well....not so much 'perfect') but quirky, uneven and a bit tatty ...flower beds! l love them!
Beds marked out with the old broken bricks we have collected. This one still has to be dug out.
An aerial view! Standing on top of the bench!
An old single bed made ends for a flower .....bed!
And nice and close to the house when we need to pop out for a herb or two!
Chickens of the metal variety!
And a Clematis. First plant in!
Along with some chives l found in a pot.
And some Lambs Ears for a bit of colour . All very small but they will boom once Spring arrives.
A hard few days work but so much fun!!!
Still a lot to do. More digging, adding compost, breaking up the soil, making paths, and then planting the plants! The fun bit! Can't wait!
