Max's Saddle!

Next Winters wood arrived this weekend! Hooray!! Geoff has already begun the big wheelbarrow shift to get it into the log shed. At least we have ALL  Summer to do it! The great benefit of ordering your wood nice and early!!!
Geoff is determined he is going to ride his little Unicorn one day! This weekend we put on a huge old Stock Saddle we have which was waaaaay too big for him, but suited the purpose of getting something on his back and see how well he coped!
He was pretty good! A few tail swishes and stubborn moments but on the whole he was very well behaved!
Even though it WAS rather large!
Max thought maybe doing a Donkey impression might help him get out of it!!
No such luck little man! Stay tuned!

The Wild Garden

One of my favourite places on our property is a small part of land we call our Wild Garden. It sits right on the Rivulet, doesn't see much Sun and has some of the few big trees we have on the place there. And lots of stunning Hawthorn trees which have just finished blossoming.
It also has lots of bracken and  blackberries !!
Plus a Winter Creek with water that runs above ground and below under beautiful mossy rocks and intriguing little holes !
Every now and then we get down there, light a fire and clear a bit more land of weeds. Yes they will come back but smaller and smaller each time.

Once the land is clear of the big stuff , the Wallabies soon come in and keep the remaining grass short as a lawn! That's the theory anyway!
Can you see the difference here? Might not look like much but it took me all afternoon!! Blackberry and Bracken gone!
Always look forward to the next time down there!

Last one!!

Little Girl was the last ewe left to lamb. All the others came within days of each other. She has hung on and hung on to the point where we weren't even sure if she was going to even have one!
But here he is!!! How sweet is this?? Born very quietly  and quickly late this afternoon. The only single lamb born this year. And the only black one!
Check out those lips???
He will be up and running in no time and playing with this lot !
Seven healthy lambs. Lovely!

Hands On Dad

We have two baby goslings this year. She originally sat on about 7 eggs, but not wanting 7 baby geese, l slipped a few out when she wasn't looking!! Geese sit for a long time and it was a very proud Mum and Dad that finally emerged out of the Duck Shed with these cute little fluffy balls!
Out of all the domestics animals l know l have decided that geese must be the most devoted of couples when it comes to protecting their young. Drakes and Roosters don't even get CLOSE when it comes to being possessive, vicious, bossy, honking , hissing fathers like old Bruce here!
It's really very sweet to watch!
As long as you don't get too close!
He touches them constantly and when even feeling slightly threatened ( if we just walk past!) he puts his head right down to the ground and rests his neck or beak on them for reassurance
Very endearing!
Nice job Bruce!

Bringing in the Goats In

If there is one thing all animals love it's routine. It means security , happiness and assurance that all is well in their world! Every night our three girls come inside. They always have right from babies. They seem to love it and will wait at the gate in the evenings for Geoff to go and get them. They have their big yard of course and their warm shed and shelter . Each night you can go outside and see them contentedly chewing the cud, sitting on their rocks or the old trailer . Happy goats.
Fat goats!!
Good night kiddies!!

Lamposts and Fences!!

We had an old lamppost propped up precariously at our side gate. With the strong gusty Spring winds the poor old thing could take it no more and finally it fell over and broke. Glass, holder, everything! A lesson to be learnt to FINISH jobs and NOT leave things half done maybe????
ANYWAY.....All was NOT lost and l resurrected it to make a far more fabulous cheerful lamp post which l love WAY more then the previous rather boring traditional one!!!!
l used a round glass bowl l had bought from the local $2 shop a few years ago and a big flat candlestick holder l bought last week. A squirt of strong two pack glue and a bit of silicone and Voila!
l love it!!
The rest of the weekend was spent painting ANOTHER 50 pickets!
And setting string lines to make sure they are all straight!
The previous lot seem to look ok!!!
And admiring it from afar! Halfway done.............half to go!!

Loving these lambs!!

More twins today. Obviously a bit stressed as both quite yellow. A boy and a girl and all seem to be doing well. Here is the little girl at about one hour old. !! Well done Louise! Just Little Girl left to go. l wonder if we will get one more set of twins??
And l LOVE this little fellow! He is one of Lala's and has the cutest little soft brown velvety nose and huge big fluffy black and white bloomers on his feet. He loves his chin being scratched and has been a friendly little fellow from day one!!!
And a beautiful flower whose name escapes me.........................!

My Arbour!

The sweetest little face to greet me this morning.....................
And my twig arbour!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not quite as impressive as my gate. Quite a bit harder to make especially on a slope. It sort of looks like it needs someone to get married under it!!! Ahh well, l will endeavour to make my NEXT one a bit more even and uniform! This one can grow old and lichen covered under the Hawthorn Tree
