Spring Chickens

Hatching time this week. Only seven, but that's ok as we always end up with too many Roosters anyway! The $5 tip shop dog kennel with the flash new roof works a treat in the falcon proof baby pen! We can lock it up securely at night so no Quolls can get in!
First cab off the rank was this little hen's brood (who spent a few nights inside in a box in front of the fire last year when SHE hatched.)

A bit shy at first......One at a time.....
Then two..............
Then three! She actually has six in total and her neighbour in the next pen (who is as yet un photographed!) has just one!
Proud Daddy keeping watch outside!
Or is THIS proud Daddy?? This poor boy is definitely Number Two in the Rooster Pecking Order around here. So much so he isn't even allowed in the chook pen with the rest of the girls and spends his entire day hovering around the outside hoping one of the hens will come out to say hello and send a bit of time with him! Quite sad really!
And a stunning shadow thrown on the wall this morning from the light outside. Just gorgeous!
