Possum Woes

We have Possums........that's okay.......everyone has Possums................but recently we have being getting LOTS of Possums..........A nightly tally has ended up as high as 10 in the garden at one time , (that's a lot of possum!) and 6 or 7 becoming the norm....This is not okay...................Seven mouths chomping on my trees all night does a lot of damage. This tree below is a classic example.Yes, it's Autumn, yes the leaves fall off! BUT...............
This tree has been shredded all Summer. It never grew any leaves at all apart from a few at the very tips of the branches where the possums can't reach....... It's a Green Gage Plum..well, it was............
This is below it....not a single leaf........the leaves you DO see are Silver Birch ones .........I'm not sure how many years it can survive with no leaves.....
It's very depressing! This tree will constantly have at least three in it every night.
We have caught and relocated at least 20 so far....but l think they are more intelligent  than that now....they don't go in the trap at all!!! Every night l set the trap, a  juicy apple in place, possums running all over the lawn, sometimes within FEET of the cage, but never do we catch one.
They are so cage savvy they sit on TOP and grab the apple from above. That movement triggers the door, so every morning the door is shut..........the apple half eaten.....and no possum!!!!!!!! Agggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
l know they are super cute but even MY patience with them is wearing a bit thin!!
But the garden still survives despite all and the Autumn colours are just beautiful.....
l think this garden is at its best in Autumn, before the frosts come ...........
And all the Dahlias die!!!
