A Day out in the Channel

Friday was a fine day so we decided in the morning to get the dogs and head across the Huon River and up over the hills to spend the day in an area down here known as The Channel. The D'Entrecasteaux Channel is a region of water between mainland Tasmania and Bruny Island (Known as the island off an island off an island!) But first up of course the every day jobs need to be done! Max seen here as usual trying to take a bite out of Geoff!
It was a stunning day. Perfect weather. Cool enough to wear a jumper , not too hot to leave the dogs in the car if need be and warm enough for Treeka to enjoy the beach and wade in the water every now and then! Which she did!
Geoff showing off skimming stones for miles!!!!
We got to the pretty town of Woodbridge and contemplated the menu at Peppermint Bay................but decided against it! Too busy and too crowded so we wandered around the gardens then headed back on the road!
But not before Geoff DID buy me this gorgeous ring of Siberian Turquoise which he said looked like the trees, hills and clouds of Candlestick Farm! Thank you Geoff! l do love it!
We drove on to the next eating hole as by now we were quite peckish as the clock slowly headed for 3pm! We arrived at the Grandvewe Cheesery. Using only sheep for their milk production, they produce a full range of cheeses and dairy  products as well as running a café  and wine tasting bar. Perfect!
The view from the outside veranda café was stunning
And we tucked into a delicious locally made Ginger beer...................
A toastie  sandwich ...............
and a Mutton (obviously didn't cut the mustard as a milker!) Kransky in a roll.
We DID have a slightly apprehensive moment when we unrolled our cutlery and came to the conclusion that it was ok............our napkin WASN'T made of toilet paper..........................!!
And the humour continued as we visited the toilets to find 'sheep humour' graffiti adorning all the walls!!
Oh dear!!!
We left via the dairy and peered in to watch the girls queuing up for their afternoon milking session..........
They are a peculiar breed of sheep called Awassi. They are the highest yielding milk producing sheep originating from South West Asia. They are self shedding to a degree mainly under their legs and bellies so always have that slightly tatty look about them!
The fleece apparently (by the looks of the property's garden) has good mulching qualities as all the flower beds were full of it! Which added up to one very happy dog we found snoozing in the Sun!
We stopped soon after lunch again to give the dogs a run as they had been patiently waiting in the car.
And gave Treek time to wistfully look out to sea...........
And Geoff!!!..........
Then back in the car to come around past the beautifully but oddly named Eggs and Bacon Bay
And what surely must be THE most photographed tree in the Channel??
Then finally at the end of the day we arrived in the pretty town of Cygnet where we sat on a park bench and ate Ice Cream and watched the world go by !
A really lovely day we all thoroughly enjoyed We really do live in a beautiful place!
