The thing l love which compensates for it was putting the gear on my big fellow and seeing how he went. He went like a dream! Well.......... maybe not a dream! (he didn't know left from right (voice commands l mean!!) he didn't really walk in a straight line and he stopped a few times on his own accord BUT he was quiet, patient, well mannered and steady which is all l could have asked for today as neither of us have worked together before.
My 'borrowed' gear is far from ideal. I'm very lucky to have been given it though as its so expensive to buy new! l broke the strap on the collar as it was very rotten so off to Hobart tomorrow to get it repaired. l also couldn't undo the cross over strap on the hames to get them off which caused me slight panic as he is so tall and even standing on the Apple crate l couldn't do it! l had visions of having to wait till Geoff got home to get it undone! The tongue bit of the buckle was actually bent backwards and the only way l eventually undid it was by clambering onto his back and undoing it from up there!!! The chains are too short (he's a very long boy!!!) as they nearly clip his heels and the reins are a bit too thick and didn't slide through the rings very well!!!!! l will endeavour to adapt and alter till we get it right!! l am so looking forward to him working this Summer!
He seemed quite proud and happily stood like a rock for his photo session!
The bridle was interesting!!! l don't have one yet so l tied a bit onto his headcoller with good old baling twine and it worked a treat! He doesn't need blinkers.............he can't see out of his forelock anyway!! Looked a bit odd but only the goats and l saw it!!And l took this shot today which l really love of our little wooden bird on a stick whose wings spin madly round in the wind. It was still today on this very misty morning but l just caught the Sun shining through behind it and l thought it looked rather cool!
Newsflash.....Louise had twin boy lambs at Glen Huon and all doing well!
