Chemical Friday

This afternoon after work Geoff, Bethie and l headed up to the big paddock to attempt some manual broom removal! We don't have a massive amount luckily just about 4 reasonably small pockets of it spread about the place. Geoff cut them l pasted the stumps and Bethie took all the stems to a burning pile. Eradicating broom can take years so we need to start now and hopefully it will all be gone visibly in a couple of weeks then the goats and sheep can nip off the fresh new growth that pops up. We used Grazon which probably isn't the nicest thing to use but its certainly effective!
The offending gorse!
Treeka waiting for some action to happen.
Geoff and Bethie hard at it!
Site Manager turned up late. l think it took her a while to cross the creek with all the blackberries in the way. l could hear her yowling away ,furious that she wasn't on site already! You can see how far away the house is! She walks for miles this cat!
Bethie with a bouquet of broom!
Bookends and best friends. They soon had enough.Too many blackberries to get caught up in!
Geoff too had had enough by this time! It was way past tea time!
Before we went in though we had to dip two of our sheep in Zinc Sulphate for foot infections. A problem with the wet ground. They were very well behaved even though Omar and Geoff went for a tumble and Geoff cut the bridge of his nose with his glasses! Luckily they didn't break! Elle was a picture of good manners and stood good as gold for a full 5 minutes in a bucket of  zinc sulphate and water! l hope one treatment will be enough, if not we will do it all again in a few days! While we were standing there either side of these sheep we listened to Australia beating Wales in the Rugby World Cup. We have a telly in  the barn. There is no picture but we could hear it! Pity it wasn't first place though!
And finally l have dug out my old old hat l have had now for more years then l care to remember. l bought it in Rockhampton QLD in 1982. Yikes! This old hat has seen a lot of horses, polo games, many dusty miles and sweltering days! Hopefully it will see me out while l mow the lawns in Tasmania!!
