Bloat

You have no idea what a wonderful photo this is! One of our little goats got terrible bloat last night and we really didn't think she was going to survive. It started when l went home at lunch time yesterday to feed them and she wouldn't eat. By the time we were home in the evening she was starting to bloat up and look uncomfortable. By night time she was in huge pain and could only stand with her back all hunched, shivering and breathing heavily. It was just awful. We made the decision to bring her inside to the laundry for the night as it seemed too cold to leave her out in the shed. We fed her olive oil as that was all we had and spent several hours massaging her stomach.
She finally did a few burps and farts and sat down. Not out of the woods but to a point where l felt l could go to bed and hope she would be ok in the morning. We checked her during the night but she remained sitting down. This photo this morning of a slim line little hungry goat was a huge relief indeed. More lessons learnt for us both. Did we overfeed her? There seem to be so many pitfalls and variables on raising such young animals its a learning curve with too many heartaches!!!Luckily touch wood, this one so far has a happy ending.
This is them in their shed! Spot the goats?? In the middle nesting box! How cute is that? Will be funny when they get too big to fit in there. Or will they end up in one each? Time will tell!
